Hope for Better Days Ahead

“O Israel, hope in the Lord!
For with the Lord there is steadfast love, and with him is great power to redeem.”
Psalm 130:7 (NRSV)
The tumultuous events of 2020 left me with a hunger for a renewed sense of hope; they also forced me to think more deeply about the foundations of hope. This psalm reminds me that only in God is true and lasting hope to be found. It also reminds me that part of God’s essential character is steadfast love. Placing my trust in a God whose core nature is steadfast love, and who is carrying out redemptive purposes in this messy, fallen world, gives me hope for better days ahead.
